On 14 September 2011, an MOU signing ceremony between BIOTEC and World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM) was held with the purpose to facilitate the access to the biological resources and information, promote joint researches and exchange researchers. The MOU signing was conducted in the presence of Dr. Philippe Desmeth, President of World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) and Dr. Juncai Ma, Director of World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM), whose visit was to provide advice to BIOTEC on making the transition from culture collection to a Biological Resource Centre (BRC).
BIOTEC Culture Collection (BCC) was established in 1996 to serve as a central facility to collect and maintain microorganisms and their relevant data, as well as a repository of patent-related microorganisms of Thailand Department of Intellectual Property. BIOTEC also houses a storage facility for other biomaterials such as hybridoma clones. To fully serve as a source of all bioresource essential, including services for research and development in life sciences, BIOTEC is in a process to establish a BRC. |
